Earlier this year, students from ESCP Business School’s MSc in Energy Management (MEM) visited TotalEnergies’ Normandy platform. The trip was organised by the School’s Energy Management Centre (EMC) and Energy Society, along with students from the MEM specialisation. This was a unique opportunity for the students to gain key insights into a refinery's operations through a guided tour by professionals from the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) and refining units.

Earlier this year, students from the MSc in Energy Management specialisation visited Westmill Wind Farm and Solar Park – the first 100% community-owned onshore wind farm and solar park in the south of England. The field trip provided participants with key insights into wind and solar technology, the electricity-generation process, operational challenges and benefits, and whether policies support the growth of wind and solar.

Earlier this month, we launched our EMC Company Consultancy Webinar Series. Our inaugural event, titled "Future-ready Real Estate: Navigating Climate Risks and Aligning your Portfolios with Key Regulations” covered key topics such as ESG drivers, regulatory trends and top ESG strategies. The event was led by esteemed speakers Daniele Horton, Founder and CEO of Verdani Partners, and Emma Huizar Felix, Associate ESG Manager at Verdani Partners and MEM Alumna (Class of 2018).

France possesses one of the largest nuclear power programmes worldwide. The country has 56 operable nuclear reactors producing a total of 61 gigawatts (GW), which is equivalent to over 70% of its electricity. At present, the country holds the highest share of nuclear energy in the world.

We would like to congratulate Professor Léon Laulusa for his appointment as Dean and Executive President of ESCP Business School. He is a leading higher education professional and a tenured professor at ESCP since 2005, where he teaches financial accounting and management control. Professor Laulusa holds the Habilitation to Supervise Research (HDR) a PhD in Management Sciences from Paris-Dauphine University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Earlier this month, ESCP Business School ranked 3rd in the latest Financial Times European Business School ranking. Our School ranked 1st in Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain, and 2nd in France and the UK. Earlier this year, our School launched its third edition of impact papers addressing the current geopolitical emergency. This research is aimed at addressing the geopolitical emergency following the large-scale armed conflict in Europe which started at the beginning of this year. The Russian-Ukrainian war, like any war, is first and foremost a humanitarian crisis. Earlier this month, we held an MSc Graduation Ceremony at the beautiful Maison de l'Amérique Latine in Paris, France for our MSc in Energy Management (MEM). Thirty-two graduates from the class of 2022 received their diplomas from the Executive Vice-President, Dean for Academic Affairs and International Relations Prof Léon Laulusa, and the Academic Director of the MEM specialisation Dr Georgia Makridou. IEA’s World Energy Outlook reports that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused more disruption to the energy industry than any other crisis in recent history. Regulatory changes, global instability, financial pressure and tighter environmental requirements can lead to a range of issues for projects within the industry.

The IEA reports that the energy industry is widely regarded as one of the least gender diverse sectors of the economy. To accelerate a global clean energy transition, it is essential to adopt innovative and inclusive solutions and to embrace greater participation from a diverse pool of talent.

An S&P Global Platts report looked at the impact of COVID-19 on the energy industry. The assessment showed that after a challenging year, the recovery is already under way, with energy demand and prices in the oil, gas and electricity sectors already close to, or even above, pre-pandemic levels.

An IEA report looked at the impact of COVID-19 on renewable energy deployment in 2020 and 2021. The assessment showed that the COVID-19 crisis is hurting – but not halting – global renewable energy growth. In this context, ESCP Business School’s Energy Management Alums are making an impact in the industry and spreading their wings across a range of organisations, and regions.

Young talent from prestigious universities met at the ESCP's London Campus earlier this year to participate in the Energy Trading Challenge 2018. We are pleased to inform you of the tremendous success of the 2018 Energy Trading Challenge organised by our MSc in Energy Management students, ESCP, the EMC and Smart Global. The event brought together 174 talented students from 17 world's top universities who competed in a fascinating two-day simulation at our London Campus, with LSE and Toulouse School of Economics taking the top three positions. Participants also met top experts from Nord Pool Consulting, Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Socar, Cheniere, EnerStrat Consulting, Libra Fearnley Energy and PVM Oil Associates who discussed the latest on trading in oil and gas markets and routes to a career in the energy trading industry. On 30th November ESCP was named as one of the UK's leading business schools at the prestigious Times Higher Education awards, having been 'highly commended' in the 'Best Business School' category.
