Connecting Education and Industry
Students from ESCP Business School’s MSc in Energy Management (MEM), along with participants from the Master in Management (MIM), Bachelor in Management (BIM) and MSc in Finance, attended an online company presentation with Trafigura to learn more about the company’s global activities, its culture, and the graduate programme pathways it offers in the energy and commodities space.
Jointly organised by the ESCP European Careers Centre, the ESCP Energy Society and the Energy Management Centre, the session was led by Léa Coulet, ESCP alumna and Talent & Resourcing Lead at Trafigura, and Stefanos Negris, MEM Alumnus (Class of 2026), who recently joined the Trafigura Graduate Programme. They were joined by Roberto Capone Morfini, Power Originator at Trafigura, who provided additional commercial and market-focused insights from the power trading side of the business.
The speakers introduced Trafigura’s role in global commodity markets, highlighting how the company sources, stores, transports and delivers energy and raw materials worldwide, while accelerating the adoption of low-carbon and renewable solutions. They also shared insights on how the organisation is positioning itself at the forefront of the energy transition – and the opportunities offered for future talent joining the organisation.
Enhancing Career Opportunities Through Real-world Insights
From a career perspective, Léa Coulet guided students through Trafigura’s recruitment and selection process, as well as the skills required to succeed. She emphasised the importance of curiosity, numerical ability, resilience, and a genuine interest in global markets, while also offering practical advice on preparing compelling applications and performing well in interviews and assessment centres.
As a recent MEM graduate, Stefanos Negris shared his own journey from the classroom to Trafigura’s graduate programme, illustrating how the MSc in Energy Management equipped him with the technical, analytical and soft skills required to succeed in a fast-paced commodities environment.
“Meeting Trafigura’s team was enlightening. I gained a deeper understanding of how global politics, economics, and energy security are shaped by the efficient movement of vital resources. By providing critical resources to their clients at all times, while navigating complex supply chains, they have a real-world impact on international stability and society's development.”

Bringing the Market to Life
Adding a commercial dimension, Roberto Capone Morfini offered insights into power origination, explaining how his team structures power purchase agreements and other long-term arrangements involving thermal, renewable and storage assets in various regions worldwide. He also highlighted the growing importance of flexibility, risk management and innovative commercial structures in supporting the integration of renewables and enabling corporate decarbonisation strategies.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which students asked detailed questions about daily life in trading and origination roles, international mobility, and how to stand out when applying for internships and graduate positions. The discussion highlighted the strong connections between ESCP and its Energy Management community, and leading industry players, such as Trafigura, showcasing how our School’s alumni, like Léa Coulet and Stefanos Negris, are helping the next generation of students navigate their first steps into the energy and commodities sector.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Trafigura’s Léa Coulet, Stefanos Negris and Roberto Capone Morfini for their time and for delivering such an insightful session. We look forward to future collaborative initiatives that will continue to connect our students with exciting career opportunities in this dynamic and evolving industry.
